The Challenge: At least one in five New Yorkers is likely to suffer from a mental health disorder in any given year. In fact, major depressive disorder is the single greatest source of disability in the city. Stigmas associated with mental health, however, make it difficult for people to talk openly and honestly about their own troubles.
Our Impact: We started the conversation, literally, and got New Yorkers to talk more openly about mental health issues. By using positive and upbeat testimonial-style ads and PSA videos, we normalized mental health issues by showing those who’d overcame their struggles. Along the way, we encouraged New Yorkers to call NYC Well, a free call line that connects you to 24/7 professional counselors and in many languages.
