The Challenge: Because of the large population density, NYC is a potential target to a wide range of natural and man-made disasters. To continue keeping the citizens of NYC safe, public outreach materials need to be created in a timely manner, and city agencies need to continue working together practicing preparedness exercises to better respond to emergencies of all kinds.
Our Impact: For almost a decade, we have been partnering with the NYC Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (OEPR) in their efforts to prevent, protect against, respond to and increase NYC’s ability to recover from the public health impacts of various emergencies.
We have created a number of public health outreach materials and documentation pieces that inform the public of these continual efforts and providing needed information to help citizens stay safe. This has included supporting efforts during the H1N1 influenza epidemic as well as the City’s response to the recent Ebola epidemic.
Additionally, we have supported the departments in combatting and preparing for a number of man-made disasters documenting multi-city agency antiterrorism exercises and drills.
DCF continues to work on a number of documentation and recruitment pieces for OEPR in helping to keep New Yorkers safe. Some of this work is included below.
